Next Rugby Shortlisted for Lux Awards Controls Project of the Year

Retail installation recognized for innovative Lumentalk-controlled lighting design

Project

London, UK

The Next store in Rugby, UK, has been shortlisted by this year’s Lux Awards in the Controls Project of the Year category. Next, a leading fashion chain in the UK, had been looking for ways to reduce energy consumption and increase flexibility across its stores, and the Rugby outlet served as a test site for new applications and technology.

Lumentalk was chosen to provide sophisticated control, with individual DMX addressability and scene setting, yet without the cost and disruption of having to install new data wiring. Lumentalk is a patented technology that uses the existing AC mains as a carrier for lighting control data. The technology is independent of any protocol, making it compatible with DMX, 0-10V, Dali, Triac or ELV control signals.

At the Rugby store, Lumentalk is used to individually dim and control more than 500 luminaires, all over the power line. It also provides the flexibility to make changes and refine dimming and control patterns over time, allowing the store to gauge the effect on shopping behavior and energy usage.

The Lux Awards ceremony is being held this year at the Troxy theatre in London, UK on Thursday 19 November.
