Lumenpulse has participated in a unique, nation-wide event to illuminate UNESCO World Heritage sites across the UK. Dubbed “Night of Heritage Lighting,” (NOHL) the one-night event saw Lumenpulse luminaires used to light the Edmund Gardner pilot cutter ship at the Liverpool Maritime Museum.
The NOHL, which aimed to promote lighting as “both an art form and a science,” was part of this year’s UNESCO International Year of Light celebration.
“The NOHL illustrates the impact that good lighting design can have by raising the profile of heritage sites after dark in a sustainable manner,” said Marc Filion, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Lumenpulse. “We’re happy to have been involved, and to work alongside the Society of Light and Lighting.”
Engineering firm Cundall used Lumencove and Lumenbeam luminaires to light the Edmund Gardner ship, which sits in a graving dock at the Liverpool Maritime Museum.
“Our idea was to light the inside of the graving dock and we like the idea that the effect will not be seen until you arrive at, or walk past, the graving dock,” Cundall lighting designer Andrew Bissell told the Liverpool Echo.
“The Night of Heritage Light is the perfect event to promote and educate on the importance of lighting design and equipment. The scale of the event will raise the profile of the International Year of Light and the lit sites will demonstrate what can be achieved by the lighting community for our communities,” Bissell said.
