Lumenpulse LEDs Put Carmelite Chapel in Spotlight
Chapel’s innovative LED lighting design featured in Lux Review magazine
Montreal, QC
When it came time to renovate Montreal’s Carmelite Chapel, specific attention was paid to the lighting design, which had to be flexible enough to complement both the building’s many different uses and its heritage status. Using a variety of Lumenbeam, Lumenfacade and Lumentask fixtures, lighting design firm Éclairage Public was able to create a lighting scheme that is as versatile as it is beautiful.
“The Carmelite Chapel really showcases the versatility of LED fixtures,” says Lumenpulse President and CEO François-Xavier Souvay. “They’re not only being used to highlight the building’s architectural value, but also to subtly create a number of different atmospheres within this sacred space. We’re very happy to be associated with the project.”
The neo-Gothic Carmelite Chapel was built in 1875. See project photos here.
The project’s uniqueness recently caught the attention of Lux Review, who featured the Chapel in their June 2013 issue. Calling the work a “World Class Project,” the magazine gave Éclairage Public high marks for their innovative design, which they report, “expresses the architecture’s quality” and makes it possible “for the Carmelites to control their own lighting system.” Read the full story here.
