Horseshoe Casino Livens Up Downtown Cleveland
Warm white LED lighting by Lumenpulse turns the historic building from A Christmas Story into the coolest destination in town.
Montreal, QC
After undergoing significant renovation , Downtown Cleveland's Higbee building—made famous by the hit movie A Christmas Story—was reborn the Horseshoe Casino in May 2012. Part of the transformation involved the installation of hundreds of Lumenpulse luminaires on the building's exterior, giving the façade a warm glow and a cool new nighttime identity.
"Cleveland residents were excited to see a key local historic landmark brought back to life in their city's core," says Sonia Brown, Senior Lighting Designer at Illuminating Concepts, which was hired by Caesars Gaming Corporation and Rock Gaming LLC to provide the building's new indoor and outdoor illumination.
For the exterior lighting, Illuminating Concepts chose LED fixtures from Lumenpulse's Lumenfacade and Lumenbeam families with a warm color temperature to accentuate the stone. The designers used a delicate grazing technique to emphasize the architectural details of the building, which was constructed in 1930.
"This project truly demonstrates the purpose of architectural LED lighting," says François-Xavier Souvay, President and CEO of Lumenpulse. "Sonia's ingenious design allows you to see the building, even its cornices, from a distance. Yet up close, it's very comfortable and inviting. You experience the building's history and its present-day significance at the same time. It's a very powerful statement."
Cleveland's downtown area was very quiet until the Horseshoe Casino opened in May. It has since attracted some 2.5 million visitors in the first six months, with many new businesses opening in some of the surrounding vacant spaces. "The casino is currently in the process of adding more table games to the gaming floor to accommodate local demand," Brown reports.
